Choghadiya or Chogadia is used for checking auspicious time to start new work. Traditionally Choghadiya was used for travel muhurat's but due to its simplicity it is used for any muhurat. There are four good Choghadiya, Amrit, Shubh, Labh and Char (all shown in GREEN) to start any and all auspicious work.
Three bad Choghadia's, Rog, Kaal and Udveg (all shown in RED) should be avoided to start any auspicious work.
The time between sunrise and sunset is called day Choghadiya and the time between sunset and next day sunrise is called night Choghadiya.
About Vaar Vela(VV), Kaal Vela(KV) and Kaal Ratri(KR), (all shown in PURPLE) It is believed that no auspicious work should be done during Vaar Vela, Kaal Vela and Kaal Ratri. Vaar Vela and Kaal Vela prevail during day time while Kaal Ratri prevails during night time. It is believed that all Manglik Work Done during these timings are not Fruitful.
There are seven types of choghadia's. Each day is divided into two time periods: daytime - the period from sunrise to sunset - and night-time - the period from sunset to sunrise. Each period contains eight Choghadia's. To calculate the duration of each Choghadia, divide the respective time periods by eight. Thus, in each period any one of the seven different types of Choghadia's will occur twice.
The sequence of daytime and night-time Choghadia's varies for each day. However, for each day, the sequence is the same. That is, the sequence for Monday is different to that for Tuesday, which in turn is different to that for Wednesday, etc. But, the sequence for each Monday is the same, as it is for each Tuesday, etc.
About Vaar Vela(VV), Kaal Vela(KV) and Kaal Ratri(KR)
It is believed that no auspicious work should be done during Vaar Vela, Kaal Vela and Kaal Ratri.
Vaar Vela and Kaal Vela prevail during day time while Kaal Ratri prevails during night time. It is believed
that all Manglik works done during these timings are not fruitful.
Example
Day 1: Sunrise at 6:39 am
Sunset
at 6:25 pm
Day 2: Sunrise at 6:41 am
The daytime period is 11 hours
and 46 minutes (706 minutes).
The night-time period is 12 hours and 16 minutes (736 minutes).
Therefore, each daytime Choghadia's lasts 706/8 = 88.25 minutes = 1
hour 28 minutes 15 seconds.
And each night-time Choghadia's last 736/8 = 92 minutes = 1 hour 32
minutes.
Thus, to determine a good time to commence important works, check the time period between which such work can be initiated and select a favorable Choghadia's within that specified time period.
